Designed risk management systems for asset managers and pension funds on behalf of Palladium Group. Following an analysis of the market and specific risks facing the funds, especially SSNIT, created a dynamic set of risk assessments with remediation and control features. Provided training to executives, portfolio managers and risk officers.

Managing Director, Pragma Corporation (Pakistan 2016–2018)
With GDP growth above the global average and an improving trend in monetary conditions there are great opportunities in Pakistan. We raised investment principally via the debt capital markets to corporates that have historically financed themselves with expensive equity. Our greatest success was in Shariah compliant financings, in particular Ijara Sukuk. At left I’ve just arrived at the very modern Jinnah International Airport in Karachi. Strategic plan (Ghana 2014-2015)
In 2014-2015 I assisted shareholders and management of the Ghana Grains Council in designing an agricultural commodity exchange. In addition to structuring risk management systems the strategic plan aims for efficiency in trading, clearing and settlement and depository systems. Merger (Ukraine 2008-2013)
During this time, among other things, I structured, negotiated and completed the merger of MFS and the All Ukraine Securities Depository. This merger was a major step to rationalizing the Ukrainian securities industry and the financial sector in general. Shareholders on both sides of the transaction included the largest banks in Ukraine and the National Bank of Ukraine, the central bank. At left, taking a break from the road show for the MFS acquisition I tour the 11th century cathedral of St Sofia. Capital formation (Ukraine 2002-2004) From a very small beginning as a regional mobile phone network in Donetsk to a nationwide voice and data network with over 10 million customers now known as life:) I raised $425 million from private equity and the debt capital markets to convert the technology to global standards, acquire spectrum, contract for international roaming and build the network. |
Investment banking (London 1990’s)
During that time I led a top notch team at Alex. Brown (most of whom I can claim credit for recruiting), completing some high profile transactions in the emerging markets. The most profitable was the restructuring and privatization of Telecom Serbia for the state holding company, PTT, for DEM 1.6 billion. In addition we raised capital for MTS (Russia), EuroKabel (Czech Republic), and Lukoil. We also provided merger advisory to si.mobil (Slovenia) and Paktel (Pakistan). The team is now spread to the four corners of the earth in banking, industry and private equity and still making the world a better place.

For most of the period from 1994 to 2004 I lived in London (top two pictures at left above) Bishopsgate and Covent Garden. Most of that time I worked in the building on the left that appears to be leaning over. Lower left is in Belgrade Serbia. Right is on the balcony of the New York Stock Exchange.
